It was all joy as Hon. Henry Ani, councillor representing Ward 9 in Enugu go South LG mobilized residents of Mount Street, Awkunanw today to embarked on road maintenance which has been dotted with potholes.
In an interview with Hon. Ani popularly known as Akija, stated that the road maixntenance is a routine project often done collectively by residents and spirited individuals to ensure that the road is always in good condition.
Hon. Ani revealed that most roads done at the same time with Mount Street are in deplorable conditions while most are impassable or washed away due to lack of maintenance.
The councilor advised residents of Enugu to emulate Mount Street residents to fix their roads, drain gutters and keep the surroundings clean without necessarily waiting for government to do everything for them.
” We have on serveral occasions embarked on road maintenance on Mount Street, and other roads within my constituency, clean up exercises and other communal projects”
“We do all these to compliment the efforts of our performing governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who had done many developmental projects in the state.
Hon. Ani commended governor Ugwuanyi for the ongoing road construction on Etudo Street while requesting for the attention of the government to upper Mount Street through Emeka Ebila which he said has become a short cut and alternative route to Agbani road.
Commending the unity of purpose of the residents, the coordinating woman leader, Enugu South LG and woman leader of ward 9, Hon. Mrs. Nkem Nnamani praised the cooperation, understanding and the efforts of residents of the street for taking upon them to always fix the road adding that such act is worthy of emulation.
The residents contributed money to buy cement and gravel to patch the road. They were seen at the early hours of today mixing cement joyfully, singing songs while happily doing the maintenance work.
Note that Mount Street has become important and alternative route for commuters plying Agbani road during prime times to cut off hectic traffic congestion at Amechi road junction down to Mayor and Amokwe junctions.
